CAITLIN BURKE: SELECTED PROJECTS

I write for consumer and user audiences, edit for print and Web, and perform site production (creating Web pages from designer comps, HTML and XML markup, CSS style sheets, and scripting).

WEB, TECHNICAL, AND MEDICAL WRITING

Weaving Your Web, a talk developed for the 2004 annual meeting of the Genetic Alliance, introducing nonprofit leaders to the basics of electronic communication and sourcing services.

Organizing an Online Portfolio, a talk developed for a chapter meeting of the American Medical Writers Association, introducing expert communicators to the conventions and technology of the Web.

Genetic Alliance, a variety of projects, including editing grant applications. Currently assembling an online resource book, now in use by GA members, for founders and prospective founders of lay advocacy groups. It is mirrored at The Anteroom.

Candera Web site, contributed writing to the "About," "Products," "Partnerships," and "Support" pages. Candera was a company that provided advanced, scalable network storage devices.

Genomic Health, researched and drafted presentations and other materials for publications and conferences, including production of print and electronic materials for Genomics & Cancer Care: An Advocacy Workshop, March 2004.

PXE International, a variety of editing and writing tasks, including attending the semiannual PXE Member Meeting in Oakland, July 2002, and reporting on sessions for the Winter 2002 PXE MemberGram (PDF, 712K).

WEB PRODUCTION

Extreme Connection Speakers Bureau: Web design and production. Worked with speaker bureau and writer. Made recommendations for the interface, created the design, processed images, sourced graphic-design services as needed, and implemented the site (HTML/CSS/PHP).

Amy McKenna: Web design and production. Made recommendations for technology and hosting, created the design and interface, processed the images, and implemented the site (HTML/CSS). (Sidekick compatible.)

Lariam Action USA: Web design and production. Worked with organization volunteers to reorganized and update existing content and migrate the site to a new server. Made recommendations for technology and hosting, created the design and interface, sourced graphic-design services as needed, and implemented the site (HTML/CSS). (Sidekick compatible.)

Genomics & Cancer Care: An Advocacy Workshop, March 2004. Researched, collected, and drafted material for the conference. Created the design, implemented the site (HTML/CSS), processed images, and sourced graphic-design services as needed. [Minisite later moved to a server that does not support some standard forms of URL.]

Beyond the Summit: Web design and production. Worked with speaker bureau and writer. Made recommendations for the interface, created the design, sourced graphic-design services as needed, and implemented the site (HTML/CSS).

Women In Action: Web production. Updated the page design and made all the pages consistent, improving navigation and readability. Also added contact and terms information and an online subscription form.

Marmoset Media: Created and maintain Marmoset Media's Web site.

GearGoddess.com: Web production lead. Samples of design and user interface available. Bear River Associates used their Java/XML Janx technology to build a content-management system for GearGoddess. I assisted in implementing the front end in addition to performing Web updates.

GearGoddess.com: Proposed, designed, structured, and coded an internal Web site for GearGoddess. Copies of some materials available.

Maintained and developed The Net Net, including adding a revenue stream, adding new writers, and redesigning the site. Archived at The Anteroom.
